Wrapped in the sheets as a brown girl,
Underneath the soil, I curl,
But my shade goes deep within,
Always frowned upon by my kin.
These are the ones,
Giving me solutions not one, not two but tonnes,
Throwing comments like firing guns,
but surprisingly none aimed at their sons.
“No more”, I say to myself will you pay attention to their “bhashan”
I have no choice but to stand amid
Mirrors reflecting my mind, my soul
Because brown is the new fashion
Show them “what a brown girl can be” with your actions
Brown is the colour of strength and the colour of compassion.
