Back To Back Binge - September's Show Recommendations

Sundays are for binge-ing, said everyone ever! Here’s Réveil’s round up of what every self-proclaimed binge-watcher must have on their list… Read on for seven spicy reviews!

#1 Asur - Welcome To Your Dark Side

Hindi | Voot

A raging psycho thriller, surprisingly starring comedy actor Arshad Warsi, Asur is for all those looking for a mind gripping series to replace the stress of the upcoming month. This 2020 mystery series explores the correlation between crime solving and mysticism with a bone-chilling plot and underrated but talented actors.

The first season bamboozled viewers and left them waiting for the second.

#2 Umbrella Academy

American | Netflix

A household of chaotic siblings, parental expectations and apocalyptic predictions - sounds like your typical Indian family since 2020. The Umbrella Academy is an American superhero show of 3 seasons based on a comic series, set in varying time periods with an intriguing cinematic style. All those wishing to indulge in high powered action, crazy plot and family drama should definitely watch this!

#3 The Crown

British | Netflix

The Queen has passed (may Her Highness rest in peace), let’s pass some time on this show about her past. Highlighted with beautiful sets, tea and biscuits, great acting, tea again (but the drama kind) and fairly realistic representation; this show was an absolute hit. Viewers worldwide gained insight into the workings and history of the British royalty. For all the pomp, drama and history lovers, this one’s for you.

#4 Gravity Falls

American | Disney+ Hotsar

This entertaining cartoon should be watched by everyone, regardless of age, interest, gender - no discrimination. It is sprinkled with chaos, comedy, family bonding, mystery, action, childhood drama and suspense to perfection. Gravity Falls is an intellectual masterpiece filled with riddles, Easter eggs and foreshadowing with unexpected twists and turns throughout the seasons.

#5 Atypical

American | Netflix

All the woke, coming-of-age show watchers, *rise*. Atypical abounds in the world of a high school boy on the autism spectrum. With witty and situational humour and a wholesome spark, the show covers his journey. It traverses his life at home, at work, in school and his foray into romance. The writers have done a phenomenal job with their informative and normal approach to a different topic.

#6 Tabbar

Hindi/Punjabi | SonyLIV

A regular Punjabi household gets caught up in a series of mishaps and misfortunes made by one small misstep. That’s what they think until the entire story - with its politics, bloodshed and thrill - reveals the truth.

The tagline is ‘Only family matters’ but the enthralling 8 episode show with exceptional performances makes you question, ‘Till what extent?’

#7 Modern Family

American | Disney+ Hotstar

An absolute banger, nostalgia lined comedy, this recommendation stems from multiple stories from Back to Back Binge. Modern Family has everything - authentic representation of a dynamic, close-knit family, dialogues of comedic gold and Emmy award winning performances. This show has the ability to free you of all negative emotions and make you LOL.

That's it for September, folks! Thanks for reading :)
